Estimating Tile Quantities
The basic rule: Length × Width + Waste = Amount Needed
Waste varies with tile size, layout, and room shape. Budget about 10% for a standard room, and 15% for diagonal layouts or rooms with lots of corners and cuts.
Example:
Room size: 2.6 m × 1.6 m = 4.16 m²
Add 10% waste: 4.16 × 1.10 = 4.58 m² needed
For walls, measure each surface, add them together, then apply the same waste factor.
Trim pieces — for edges, corners, and countertop transitions — are sold individually and measured by length:
Total edge length ÷ trim piece length = pieces needed
Example:
3 m of exposed edge, using 15 cm bullnose trim:
300 cm ÷ 15 cm = 20 pieces needed
These formulas give you a solid estimate. For anything with tricky angles or special conditions, we recommend having one of our installers take a look before you order.
